Sovereign Catholic Military Order of Saint Louis IX, Crusader King

Feast of Saint Bonifiliius of Foligno
Bishop, Abbot & Crusade Chaplain
September 28, 2026 A. D.

Dear Members and Supporters,

I write to share with you the news that this year, on the Feast of our patron, Saint Bonifilius of Foligno, Bishop & Crusade Chaplain, the Holy Father has granted to our Order the privilege to incardinate clergy of all ranks for the spiritual welfare and solace of our members and those we serve. Read the official notice, in French, HERE.

As the co-principal Doctor of the Church, Saint Thomas Aquinas, teaches, the clergy have a spiritual role even in war, and thus, a maiore, in all things pertaining to the defense of Christians from persecution. The Angelic Doctor, in fact, says: It is the duty of clerics to dispose and counsel other men to engage in just wars. (Summa Theologica II, II, Q. 40, a. 2, reply to n. 3).

And again, “Prelates ought to withstand not only the wolf who brings spiritual death upon the flock, but also the pillager and the oppressor who work bodily harm; not, however, by having recourse themselves to material arms, but by means of spiritual weapons, according to the saying of the Apostle (2 Corinthians 10:4): “The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God.” Such are salutary warnings, devout prayers, and, for those who are obstinate, the sentence of excommunication.” (ibid. reply to n. 1).

And, again, the Angelic Doctor teaches that: “Prelates and clerics may, by the authority of their superiors, take part in wars, not indeed by taking up arms themselves, but by affording spiritual help to those who fight justly, by exhorting and absolving them, and by other like spiritual helps. Thus in the Old Testament (Joshua 6:4) the priests were commanded to sound the sacred trumpets in the battle. It was for this purpose that bishops or clerics were first allowed to go to the front: and it is an abuse of this permission, if any of them take up arms themselves.” (ibid. reply to n. 2)

Indeed, in modern times though the role of the Military Chaplain is well known, in our Order, dedicated to the defense of persecuted Catholics, the need for priests is even more grave, since by the vows of Our Holy Rule, our members are pledged to the greatest level of charity, that of risking our own lives for the sake of our brothers in Christ, a thing infinitely beyond and above the virtue of patriotism, let alone that lesser and necessarily perverted service in the Armed Forces of nations which are ruled by Freemasons.

For this reason, recognizing that the spiritual formation of our members, from the very first days of their service, is an essential part of the spirituality and vocation of Our Order, the Holy Father, Hildebrand, has granted our Order one of the privileges customary to the ancient Catholic Military Orders: that of having our own clergy, not to govern our Order, but to provide the Sacraments, counsel and spiritual direction of our members as well as those Catholics we serve in the field.

Hence, it is, with this privilege, now granted, that I invite Bishops, priests and deacons, who discern a vocation to such a service in the greatest work of mercy: assisting persecuted Catholics, to contact our offices for more information about how they might fulfill their clerical vocation in the service of Christ the King, in our Order.

I also want to take this opportunity to ask our members, clients (past and present), and friends to pray for theses vocations, by commending them to Saint Bonifilius, as well as to prayerfully considering to help us foster them by any charitable gift the Lord might inspire you to give, though the Donation buttons below.

Deus Vult!
